SonoPhile

Imaging Planes
-
Transverse Plane (axial plane or cross-sectional) - Runs perpendicular to the ground in the supine patient and separates superior from inferior or head from feet.
-
Sagittal Plane - in the supine position, it runs perpendicular to the ground, separating left and right.
-
Coronal Plane (frontal plane) - Separates anterior from posterior or front from the rear in a supine patient.
-
Oblique Plane - The probe is not parallel to, nor is it at right angles to, the coronal, sagittal, or transverse planes.

Probe Manipulation
-
Slide – Movement of the probe in the long axis along the surface of the body
-
The probe remains perpendicular to the target.
-
Sweep – Movement of the probe in the short axis along the surface of the body
-
The probe remains perpendicular to the target.
-
Rock – Movement of the probe along its long axis without changing the point of contact between the probe and the surface of the body
-
Fan – Movement of the probe along its short axis without changing the point of contact between the probe and the surface of the body
-
Pressure/compression – Movement of the probe into the surface of the body
-
Footprint maintains contact with the body's surface, and the probe remains perpendicular to the target.
-
Rotate – Movement of the probe clockwise or counterclockwise.
-
Footprint maintains contact with the body's surface, and the probe remains perpendicular to the target.
